Hinckley AFC can return to third spot in the Midland League First Division with a win over Lichfield City at St John’s Park tomorrow night.
Carl Abbott’s side haven’t played a league game for ten days but host Lichfield tomorrow with the chance to bounce back to third and build on last week’s comprehensive win over Rocester in the League Cup.
AFC are the league’s top scorers with 93 from just 26 games, but tomorrow come up against a Lichfield side who have the third best defensive record in the league – only the league’s top two have conceded fewer.
That’s despite conceding seven in their last two, with a 3-3 draw with Chelmsley Town followed by by a 4-1 defeat to Stafford Town on Saturday.
They have won just once in their last five but will want to put that right by beating Hinckley and avenging the result from earlier in the season that saw a Ryan Seal brace, one from Paul Sullivan and an own goal earn the visitors on that day a 4-0 win.
In fact, Hinckley have won each of their last four against Lichfield without conceding a goal, though City did take a point in the first meeting between the two sides in November 2014.
The visitors will provide Hinckley with a stern test though. They will move back into the top six with a win and with games in hand on both Cadbury Athletic and Racing Club Warwick directly above them, could move into fifth if they win those games in hand.
